Previews:
For all skins' galleries, they have to be in .Jpg and to be a full size screenshot.
For Dream you have the option to have a motion preview in .swf (flash) Make sure that your preview image is an actual representation of what the submission looks like.Preview images should be at a minimum 1024x768, but higher previews are recommended.
Files:
Do not upload .rar files if you need to archive your submission you must use .zip

Avatar =.zip .jpg 50px and .png 50px
beatnik =.zip .bnSkin
Bootskin =.zip .bootskin

You can notice that for each galleries Zip are allowed.
Why?
To include a permission
text/email; or if you have severals skins to upload (when you have the
same skins but in differents colors or sizes it's better to upload them
together than separetly); for skins without original extensions like
rainlendar or rightclick, or a read-me file.
Notes also that files like icons, executables, pictures it's better to zip them even if it's only one.
For Avatars, your avatar
on Wincustomize must be in 50 pixels per 50 pixels and in Jpg but you
can also add a .png version of it.
Misc. Icons have to be .Ico files (no
.png , png icons must go under ObjectDock gallery) designed to work
under XP or/and Vista so need to contains the common icons sizes for
those OS
Permissions:
When you use someone
else graphics/codes or whatever you must get a permission from the
original author. When you have it you must include it in your upload.
So you will need to use .zip.
Descriptions:
Your description should give the best informations about your submission and Credit authors if needed.

Your description shouldn't contains any advertisements or whatever not allowed in this site.More informations in Wincustomize Guidelines or for Dream additional Guidelines here.

SkinStudio 6 (Beta) Overview

First when we open SKS6 we have the choice between "I am new..." and "I am experienced..."
We'll choose "I am experienced..." cause all options are displayed for this overview, but the great new feature with SKS6
is that we can choose as beginner the "I am new..." and left out some option like animations.

Now the options: first one we'll choose the editor for pictures.
Here like i've Photoshop 7 i'm gonna choose it as custom editor.
We can notice some others options; like "Do not convert TGA to PNG" and "Show tree in edit windows"
interesting options cause SKS6 by default convert TGA with alpha channel to PNG with transparency so if you don't want that enable this option.
We will see the tree option later.

Now that our preferences are set, we will create a new skin. To do that simply click on "New skin" at the top left of the window.
Then we have the choice (again) between "WindowBlinds Basic" and "WindowBlinds advanced" well we take advanced cause they are more flexible.
We enter a new name like "My first WB" and press enter.

For this Overview i'll use Arileen my last WB. So we'll open it at the top left of SKS6 window under "New skin" we'll press "Open skin".
A new window appear we select Arileen on the list and we'll press open.
We could press also copy to make a copy of the skin to work on it.

Like Arileen has severals substyles a popup window appear where we'll choose the substyle to work on.

Now the skin open that's how SKS6 is displayed. First "Full Preview" of the skin.
Then "Edit Controls" with severals menus where we'll see "buttons" "toolbars"....
Then "Start Menu and Taskbar"...
....
Well lets see all of them in the following Pictures.

We'll see Colors and fonts later.
The next Picture show how looks the "Tree view" can bee useful especially at the end of the WB building to check out all the settings and see if we haven't forget something.

Well Now we'll open in "Edit Controls" the "Edit Button" section.
Like we can see there are displayed at the top of the new window a preview of how looks the buttons.
Under the Preview there are "Force Image Reimport press F5" to refresh the preview, "Apply" button to apply the skin to see how it looks in real,
A rollbox to choose witch states we want in the preview (here normal state but we can choose to see Mouse over or press...)
An other to choose the background color of the preview.
The search icon is to open the Zoom useful to see your skin with a new regard
Beside "Color Preview margins" checkbox we have a symbol click on it to open a new window where we can set the margins
Yes we can set them without open it. But on this new window we can resize the picture larger than in the main window.
Useful for window's borders or high pictures
At the Left side we have the different sections for this controls. Be sure to see all of them.

We have also different tabs Image (we'll see later), Glyph (an other way to make buttons like for titlebar buttons we can make a general background picture for all of them and a glyph like a X for the close button)
,Animation (where to enter the animation settings like for a start button animated), Painting margins (where to set the margins), Text (where to set the text margins, fonts and colors of the text)
Tools, Coloring mask, and Help(important that's show us the different states for the pictures we have to set.)

So from the "Help" tab we can see that the button need 5 states.
Well we'll import the picture that we have made previously.
Press "Import" button a popup appear press the browse button and choose your picture.
Here like we import a TGA with transparency and translucend and then with a Alpha channel, we'll select the checkbox "This image has transparent parts" and "this image has alpha channel".
If it was a Bmp with only transparency (and then with Magic pink) we has only select the first one.

Now that we have import a new image we'll set the image margins. Here like the picture was made in this way we'll stretch it.
A 0 stretching will looks like really weird. So we'll try different settings at the end we'll keep the best ones.
here that'll be a 7 in top/bottom/right/and Left.
Instead of stretch the picture we could also set it to "Tile the middle section", "Center Middle section",...

Now we'll set the Text margins, fonts and color of the font.
Be sure to set them for all states trough the rollbox.
We'll create a new color, go to the "Change skin color" "create a new color" see the image it explain better than text
Back to the button in text tabs choose the new color from the rollbox. Good
Hum back the black anyway lol
Now the fonts go to "Change skin Fonts" "add new font" select the font name, the size, the decoration (bold, underline,...) press ok.
Back to the button and select the new font (like the color)

New in SKS6, we can make skin for Vista too.
Look to the symbol for each XP and Vista specific section we have the XP or vista logos or both when the section is for both.
If a setting has no logos it's for XP and Vista.

On Vista the pictures for certain sections aren't build in the same way as XP
In the following case it's build with states not by buttons.
Like this one: We have to built the left and right arrow together and by states:Mouse over, Normal,...

OR we have also an other way to built the picture instead of horizontally we can built them vertically
In this case after import we have to select the checkbox "This image has frames stacked vertically

Well we have seen a little part of SKS6 now go head and see all others by yourself.

I hope this will help someone a little

well where begin? From the beginning i think
This is not a tutorial
Some of us fall in skinning community everyday, many are really new on this stuff, some are new on the site but skin for their personal use since some months/years.

The first thing you can think in seeing an awesome skin/themes from a awesome skinner?
1_ I wish i can do that but i've no skills
2_ How he can do it?
3_... and continue...

Well every people can do it and make their own skins/themes
What do you need? ok you'll tell me that you need skills... NO!!!!
You need time and learn and want really learn.
A very fews Skinners have the skills and hadn't learn too much... VERY FEWS!

You can do all the skins/themes ALL as far as you want it.

So back to the new skinners, you are here but you've no clue where to look for tutorials for this or this application. Ok that's normal.
*You can ask in Forums on Wincustomize
*You can visit our Wincustomize Wiki
*You can read each Articles not only the featureds ones
*You can visit every skinners' personal pages and read their articles not only those of masters or journeyman.

A Special thanks goes to sVis for her awesome help to make it a lot of more clear

This tutorial will show you how create an advanced shortcut in DesktopX.
It will have more options than the basic DesktopX shortcut object. I'll show you how to create the object and script. You'll need a little knowledge of scripting and DesktopX. To make it, I have read RomanDA's tutorials which you can find here:
RomanDA articles

You should, at each step of this tutorial, see the picture for more information.

Create the Object

First right click on DesktopX Builder systray icon and select "create object"...

Summary Information

Then, in the object's properties in the "Summary" tab, enter the author name (guess it's you). Set the width to 50 and height to "follow aspect ratio". This is so that all the pictures of your shortcut will only be 50px). Finally, set the object ID.

_________

Add a Custom file

No no, it's not finished yet. Now you need to add the main picture of your object.
Go to "custom files" in the "Summary" tab and then click "add".
Browse for your picture. Here it's the earth. ''('''Note:''' Remember the full name of the image file, you'll need it in future.)''
Here it's "Blue + Black Internet 1.png"

_________

Add States

Now, you'll add some states. In the "States" tab, click on add.

Then, select "mouse away", "mouse over", " mouse down", and "Nothing". To make the "Nothing" state simply edit the name of the state.

In these states, change the appearance to the same picture that you embedded earlier. ("Blue + Black Internet 1.png") It can be found in the drop down menu.

Then, add some effects in the "color" tab. Here I set the brightness to 50 on "mouse over" and 30 on "mouse down", same for the contrast.

_______________

Apply and save. In case of an error you should keep a good copy of the object.

Create the Script

First go to Object Properties and in the "General" tab click on "new" script.

The first part of the script are the OnScriptEnter, OnScriptExit functions.
These will be called on when the widget first runs and when the widget closes. This script will call other functions for saving and loading user settings explained later.

		SCRIPT CODE

'Call on script enter
Sub Object_OnScriptEnter
  Call LoadSettings()
  Object.SetTimer 1000, 2000
  Call setinfo
End Sub

'Call on script exit
Sub Object_OnScriptExit
  Call SaveSettings()
  object.KillTimer 1000
End Sub

Right Click Menu

_________

This script for the right click menu will allow the user to choose an image for the shortcut's icon, and the ability to choose between a file, folder or url as the shortcut's target.

		SCRIPT CODE

Dim foldername
Dim Icon
Dim target

'Function to set the right click on the object
Function Object_OnRButtonUp(x,y,dragged)
	If Not dragged Then
	Dim menu
	Set menu = DesktopX.CreatePopupMenu
menu.AppendMenu 0, 1, "Select Icon"
menu.AppendMenu 0, 2, "Select File"
menu.AppendMenu 0, 3, "Select Folder"
menu.AppendMenu 0, 4, "Select URL"
	Dim rtn
	rtn = menu.TrackPopupMenu(0, System.CursorX, System.CursorY)
	Select Case rtn
Case 1
Object.States("Mouse away").picture="Blue + Black Internet 1.png"
Object.States("Mouse over").picture="Blue + Black Internet 1.png"
			Object.States("Mouse down").picture="Blue + Black Internet 1.png"
		  	Set Sh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
			On Error Resume Next
			Foldername = Desktopx.ExecutableDirectory
			Icon = System.FileOpenDialog("Select a Picture....", "", Folder, "Pictures: jpg,bmp,png|*.jpg;*.bmp;*.png", 0)
			If Icon"" Then
			Object.States("Mouse away").picture=icon
			Object.States("Mouse over").picture=icon
			Object.States("Mouse down").picture=icon
			End If
			Set Sh = Nothing
		Case 2
			Object.States("Nothing").picture="Blue + Black Internet 1.png"
			Set Sh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
			On Error Resume Next
			Foldername = Desktopx.ExecutableDirectory
			target = object.command
			x = (System.FileOpenDialog("Select a File...", "", Folder, "All files|*.*", 0))
		 	If x  "" Then
			Object.States("Nothing").picture = x
			End If
			Set Sh = Nothing
		Case 3
			Object.States("Nothing").picture="Blue + Black Internet 1.png"
			Set Sh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
			On Error Resume Next
			target = object.command
			x = (System.FolderDialog("Select a Folder...", "",&H4000))
			If x  "" Then
			Object.States("Nothing").picture = x
		 	End If
			Set Sh = Nothing
		Case 4
			Object.States("Nothing").picture="Blue + Black Internet 1.png"
			Set Sh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
			On Error Resume Next
			target = object.command
			Dim Input
			Input = InputBox("Enter URL: ex: 'http://www.wincustomize.com' or an email ex: 'mailto:quentin94.website@free.fr'", "Select URL...")
			x= Input
			If x  "" Then
			Object.States("Nothing").picture = x
			End If
			Set Sh = Nothing
End Select
	Set menu = nothing
	End If
	If rtn  5 Then
	Object_OnRButtonUp=True
	End If
End Function

You can see the entire right-click menu code above. I'll explain some of the parts.

Case 1 is the part of the code that changes the picture of the shortcut on all object states: "mouse away", "mouse over", and "mouse down". ''('''Note:''' "nothing" state will be for another function)''

"System.FileOpenDialog" will open a dialog window to choose the file. "Select a Picture...." will be the title of the dialog window. "Pictures: jpg,bmp,png|*.jpg;*.bmp;*.png" will allow the user to browse for those types of files only.

In Case 2,3, and 4, the first line will recall the main settings of the object in error case. Object.States("Nothing").picture="Blue + Black Internet 1.png"
then the target is as set on left click
target = Object.States("Nothing").picture
and there it's the "target = object.command"
So to explain once you'll set a target the address of this one will be copy
on the "Nothing" state and in this three case as object.command too

Case 2 will open the file dialog:

x = (System.FileOpenDialog("Select a File...", "", Folder, "All files|*.*", 0))
If x  "" Then
Object.States("Nothing").picture = x

Case 3 will open the folder file dialog:

x = (System.FolderDialog("Select a Folder...", "",&H4000))
If x  "" Then
Object.States("Nothing").picture = x

Case 4 will open the URL/EMAIL inputbox:

Dim Input
Input = InputBox("Enter URL: ex: 'http://www.wincustomize.com' or an email ex: 'mailto:quentin94.website@free.fr'", "Select URL...")
x= Input
If x  "" Then
Object.States("Nothing").picture = x

Save/Load User Settings

This is where you'll save and load the information of the object stored in the "dim" variables 'foldername', 'Icon', 'target'.

		SCRIPT CODE

'will save the stteings of the object
Function SaveSettings()
Set Sh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
Sh.RegWrite "HKCU\SOFTWARE\desktopx\iconchanger\folder", foldername
Sh.RegWrite "HKCU\SOFTWARE\desktopx\iconchanger\icon", Icon
Sh.RegWrite "HKCU\SOFTWARE\desktopx\iconchanger\target", target
Sh.RegWrite "HKCU\SOFTWARE\desktopx\iconchanger\x", x
Set Sh = Nothing
End Function

'will load the settings
Function LoadSettings()
foldername = Desktopx.ExecutableDirectory
On Error Resume Next
Set Sh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
FolderName = Sh.RegRead("HKCU\SOFTWARE\desktopx\iconchanger\folder")
Icon = Sh.RegRead("HKCU\SOFTWARE\desktopx\iconchanger\icon")
target = Sh.RegRead("HKCU\SOFTWARE\desktopx\iconchanger\target")
x = Sh.RegRead("HKCU\SOFTWARE\desktopx\iconchanger\x")
Set Sh = Nothing
Err.Clear
End Function

Tooltip

In this code you'll script the object's tooltip:

		SCRIPT CODE

'will call on a fix time setinfo
Sub Object_OnTimer1000
Call setinfo
End Sub

'will when call set the tooltips with the complet address of the shortcut
Sub setinfo
object.ToolTipText=(Object.States("Nothing").picture)
End Sub

Launch the Shortcut

This script will launch the shortcut when you left click on the object. If it's an image it will open it on your default picture's editor. The address of the shortcut is on the "Nothing" state:

"target = Object.States("Nothing").picture"

		SCRIPT CODE

'function to set the left click on the object
Function Object_OnLButtonUp(x,y,dragged)
	If Not dragged Then
		On Error Resume Next
		Set Sh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
		target = Object.States("Nothing").picture
		Sh.Run (Chr(34)& target & Chr(34))
		Set Sh = Nothing
	End If
End Function

Well now you'll need to save your work and export it as object/widget or gadget or add it to a theme. Whatever you want!

I hope this tutorial has been helpful.

WindowBlinds and the graphic editors have many tutorials on the Web but not SKS. With this one I do not come to learn how to you to make such or such things but to see how to use SKS to do what you want. Obviously, I am new in the creation of WB skins thus if it misses something known as it me. As my English leaves something to be desired, look at the images well to include/understand what I speak To go one starts with the beginning, by launching SKS. With the starting of the software a window opens, close it. Go in the menu in top, click on ?? File ??, ?? new ??, and choose ?? Skin form template ??Now, select ?? WindowBlinds Skin ??In the window which has just opened, enter the name of your skin, select UIS2, and the type of skin. Here the name is Secret BB a skin on which I work. To start we will change information of the skin, ?? Editor notes ?? show what you note inside with the opening of your skin in SKSEx : ?? this skin is copyrighted ??Also think if you create your own animations and tools bars has to change informationOk now a small solo circuit of SKS: SKS is arranged like explorerOn left, you have one explorer with all the elements. I can only advise you to use it to check that you did not forget anything. In bottom, on the left, of what to help you a little : a zoom of 2x to 8x interesting to see the elements pixels by pixels and also a tab ?? Help ?? with information on each elements (position, mouse over, away, select, ???)On right-hand side, you will find information and properties of each element. Click on one of them, summary options are posted in bottom. It should be known that the majority of the properties of each element are posted on the right SKS. In bottom of SKS, you will find the image of the element posted to allow you to see each state of this one, to edit it, to import a picture, of recolorer this one or to select the margins of the image. You will find also a button ?? help ?? who will give you additional indications. You can also stretch the image to see how it behaves. In the center of SKS, you have a visualization of the elements of the skin in action (check all the same by applying the skin with WB to check in reality), a direct access (but summary) to each part of the skin, AND tabs at the top ?? preview ?? ?? code ?? but especially ?? Analyse ?? to use regularly to check that there are no critical errors. Preferences of SKSIt is interesting to select ?? convert TGA to png ?? and your graphic editor by default. As that when you to publish an element since SKS it opens as a png thus easier to publish. When you save Skin SKS converts the png as Tga automatically. Create a ?? Substyle ?? Edit an elementImport a pictureI advise you to use format png, simpler to see the transparencies, in more SKS the png converts into bmp or tga automatically. For against, when you import an image to be used as a bmp with transparent parts (edges), think of applying Chanel alpha. In the same way, when you select transparent: SKS uses the bmp. format And when you select also translucent: SKS uses the tga formatBmp= transparency on the edges with ?? magic pink ??Tga= transparency on the edges but also translucent thus to use for the images with the translucent interior. As in the Aero interface of Vista. MarginsThere are two types of marginsSimple, for the appearance of the image when it is stretched But also of content "contents margins" for the interior of the image for example for the texts posted in the image. Think that the interface gives you information by tooltips unceasinglyAlso think of using the explorer, there are enormously elements hidden seeminglyHere there are much more things to see, I can only advise you to see, explore, test... But I'm French and my Photoshop is in this language thus at each step see the picture (Click on each to see the full picture in a other window) and make/set all like in them when you will finished the button you could in future make your own
First picture to show what i talk about

Create a new file 30 px per 28 px; transparent

select selection tool and select all the layer, right click on the layer and select borders, choose a color here true blue at 60% of luminosity, and press ok

Now you get this

Make the same with a more clear color, Now make a range between first color of border and this same color but at 100% of luminosity (see following picture)

Ok now select the top half of the range, create a new layer

and made an other range between white (FFFFFF) and transparency.

Set the opacity of this layer at 25%

Fusion the two layer, and select one pixel at each corner.

Cut them and select the form tool (see the picture on right), and set it like in bottom of picture.

Select all the picture with this tool and select the pen tool.

Right click with it in selection and select "create a Vectorial Mask".

Create a new layer and select the Pencil

Draw a cross in white on new layer and select his transparency

take the selection tool

Right click on the selection, choose borders

Set opacity at 50% and choose the first color of borders.

Save as .PNG

Open this .png and set the Opacity at 80%

Save as .PNG. Now you know how make a close button, and it's the same for others
I hope all of that is clear, feel free to ask or comment.

Live Messenger

Hello

Since many month i use a software called "Messenger Plus! Live", today after a friend question i searched if this soft could be in english. And Yes it's in many languages thus i decided to share with you this one.
It's a Freeware with many features and it could be customized colors, transparency, contacts displayed on desktop, Personalized Status, Custom Sounds, Tabbed chats....

Quote of the website:

"And it's all free.

Messenger Plus! is freeware and you are encouraged to send it to your friends. You'll never have to pay a dime to benefit from all the features of the program. Messenger Plus! does not contain any kind of spyware or trojan. The embedded optional sponsor is adware and you get a clear choice to install it or not during setup, risk free! For those who want to support the development but prefer not to install the sponsor program, you are encouraged to visit the online store, or give the developer a minute of your time by sending a postcard."

and the link for all features

I like this one and the comment too:

"Messenger Lock

Be it for security in shared computer environments or for avoiding your boss (which would be wrong wrong wrong!), this feature lets you lock Messenger with a simple shorcut (or Plus! menu command) and hide it in the system tray with an inconspicuous icon, the ability to password protect it and to automatically send a message to your contacts to inform them when you have locked and unlocked your Messenger."

Ok thus i have made some screenshot to show you what i talk about:

contacts on desktop can be set where/how you want, display with different states of transparency, colors (mouse over, selected,normal) for all or individual.

There are also a mail checker for external email account

Tabbed Conversations

Here Some others features
